Overview
Morgan State University intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Category II grant to enhance the ongoing work being conducted by several local community-based organizations to address community, education, economic, and housing development concerns in northeast Baltimore. Morgan’s primary activity will be to create a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan for the target area in northeast Baltimore. This plan will serve as the principal guiding document through which the communities near the university interact within the context of state and city planning. A second grant activity is to create a community green space/play garden by upgrading a local partner’s playground. Morgan will also create, supervise, and sustain a community computer center on the grounds of the school. The third proposed grant activity is to complete the first of a multi-stage effort toward rehabilitating and renovating a 200-year-old gristmill on Morgan State’s campus.
