Overview
The University of Puerto Rico at Humacao (UPRH) intends to use its Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant to implement its Civic Engagement through the Arts (CETA) project. CETA is directed toward low- and moderate-income children and teenagers who reside in downtown, urban Humacao. The first phase of the project is the rehabilitation of the two-story property adjacent to UPRH’s Casa Roig Museum to house the community-oriented center for arts instruction and performance. The second phase involves the provision of direct, arts- and culture-based services to children and teenagers from the community at the new site. It engages UPRH’s faculty, students and staff, urban downtown residents, and community and faith-based organizations in a join effort to ameliorate the social reality faced by the youth.
