Arizona State University will implement the "Urban Village" concept in two Phoenix neighborhoods--South Mountain and Central City--based on the work of two citizen-based village planning committees already in place. The Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) activities will include the following: - Enhancing citizen participation and empowerment.
- Increasing social service delivery.
- Providing housing counseling on improving individual housing conditions.
- Developing and marketing a strategic vision for economic development.
- Implementing customized job training and youth leadership development programs.
The COPC will provide opportunities for students (as well as faculty and staff) to serve as mentors and educators in these two neighborhoods.
