| Brooklyn College will receive $399,979 to establish a Community Outreach Partnership Center in the Crown Heights/Flatbush and Sunset Park communities of Brooklyn.
Specific activities to be undertaken include: - Implementing a middle school initiative to provide tutoring for 400 students in 4 middle schools annually.
- Teaching conflict resolution and writing skills in an afterschool program at four high schools.
- Conducting a lead and asthma survey and public education campaign in public housing developments in the neighborhoods.
- Offering tutoring in academic enrichment (reading and writing) and computer skills to augment the services provided by Hispanic Young Peoples Alternatives.
- Organizing a mural painting project to support a sense of collaboration and community pride.
$400,000 in matching funds will be provided by the local public schools.
