| Florida International University will receive a Community Outreach Partnership Centers grant of $399,481 to assist 10 community development corporations(CDCs) in the Miami metropolitan area. The communities to be assisted, several of which are in the Miami Enterprise Community, include of East Little Havana, Little Haiti, Opa-Locka, and West Perrine.
Activities to be undertaken include: - Helping these CDCs development community assessments and visioning plans.
- Providing seminars on economic development to help these CDCs implement their plans.
- In concert with LISC, providing technical assistance, legal expertise, and program planning funds to help community-based organizations build the capacity to implement specific economic development projects.
The partnership between the university, LISC, and the CDCs will be a major step toward moving the local economy from one that is heavily dependent on low-wage, low-technology services to one that is more competitive with other urban areas.
